What does a broad consumer-price measure describe?

BEA’s PCE price index covers goods and services purchased by, or on behalf of, people in the United States.
Data context
A price index and nominal consumer spending are different quantities. A nominal spending increase need not represent the same increase in real consumption.
Interpretation
Use a named series and consistent measurement period when placing company demand in a macro context.
What to monitor
Separate prices, volumes and product mix when reviewing an issuer’s reported revenue.
Limitations
A national index does not describe every household or company. No current PCE release is summarized here.
